What is Moviehouse?

Moviehouse is an interactive screening series featuring film and video work by the city’s most intrepid moviemakers and performance artists. We project a curated show on alternative spaces throughout the city. At each screening we invite our audience into a salon-style dialogue among filmmakers, audience members and the wider community.

Why is Moviehouse?

Our main purpose is to foster connections through discussion of the issues raised by films. Through the exhibition of excellent work we hope to provide access to remarkable artists in a relaxed setting that encourages conversation, collaboration and community.

How is Moviehouse?

We start each event with an hour long gathering including video performance from resident VJ Shantell Martin and food from the best local chefs. The following film program includes 25-60 minutes of curated work ranging from documentaries to music videos, as well as narrative/experimental work. The event closes with a Q&A with artists and collaborators on issues raised by the films.

Who is Moviehouse?

Moviehouse is a collection of folks with remarkable talents.

 

Chris Henderson- Chris selects the right mix of filmmakers around a dedicated theme for each screening from the sharp talents that make their way to us. He hosts the screening and facilitates the post-show discussion.

Shantell Martin- As the audience enters each show, Shantell invites them into the environment. Whether it’s light on a wall, marker on skin, or pen on canvas, she uses whatever materials are readily available and dig in for the sake of fun, often fueled by music.

Clara Ines Schumacher- Clara manages each show from start to finish and casts her culinary tastes to invite the finest local chefs to share their yummies before each event.

Clay Franklin- One of the driving forces behind the growth of Moviehouse and our long-time VJ continues to advise and make sure we find new opportunities to share.

 

Mark Sullivan Bernal- Mark captures the distinct flavor of each event through his photo work.

 

Austin Duggan, Chris Sciuto Lam Thuy Vo, Kieran O’Hare, Victoria Lebron and Sejan Yun- Austin, Chris. Lam, Kieran, Victoria and Sejan helped get Moviehouse where it is today.
