Moviehouse welcomes three ridiculously talented video artists to our December show. Explore the fine line between cinema and fine art, political commentary and creative indulgence, real world documentary and imaginative surreality. All in one night!

Featuring
Transient Patrons by John Bonafede
1203tp

A performance that took place on the NYC subway system where John made a speech begging for commuters participation in a saliva water color series of paintings made from their sputum. After collecting the spit, he returns home to clean up his fake shabbiness, goes to barber to shave, and turns back into “painter” mode. Using printed stills from the performance and the spit collected, John produces seven detailed saliva colored paintings.

Unfinished Business: Wash Away by Manuela Viera-Gallo

Manuela found out that chlorine looses the pigment from photographic emulsion prints, dripped some of it on top of the faces of many Pinochet pictures taken from the oficial web site of pinochet institution , then filmed the process of dissolving and gently blew on the liquid, making it move. The result of this simple chemical proceeding is a cross between digital animation and fire.

Random Act of Kindness/Random Act of Exploitation by CK Swett, Victor Jeffries II, and Russel Fong

The filmmakers met Tim on 23rd street near sixth avenue. He was sitting on the sidewalk with his back against a shuttered storefront. Before him perched a small hand-lettered cardboard sign that read:

Please Help
My dad passed away on Thursday
I am trying to get home for the
funeral and to be with my family
I only need $49 $39 more for a bus
Im not perfect but I wouldn’t lie about this

I told him I’d give him the money if I could use him for my art project. I told him I’d buy him a suit for his father’s funeral as well.

He agreed.

Pete Aleksa, BushwickBK: “Though Moviehouse projects a pretty informal atmosphere in general and with its emphasis on sharing impressions and ideas about the films with other audience members and the filmmakers, it seems like it provides an amazing forum for local filmmakers to show and talk about their work.”    more
