Seeking site-specific dance films

Moviehouse: CinemaParque seeks a dance film artist to create a site-specific work at Sternberg Park in East Williamsburg. The 3-10 minute piece can engage any part of the park and will be screened on the handball court at park in late August 2010. The artist is also asked to perform a short live performance at the park following the screening of the film. Latino artists and artists from North Brooklyn will be strongly considered. All members of the Dance Film Lab are eligible regardless of experience or background.

Sternberg Park offers baseball fields, basketball courts, and handball courts. The playground contains swings, play equipment with safety surfacing, benches, picnic tables, and a comfort station. A flagpole with a yardarm and London planetrees (Platanus x acerifolia) add to the beauty of the park.

CinemaParque is part of the Moviehouse family of interactive screening events. Each summer the handball courts come alive for community members as an alternative outdoor spot on warm summer nights where they can visit with friends and neighbors, view entertaining films about issues pertinent to the neighborhood—at home and worldwide—and engage in dialogue with talented filmmakers.
